Hugh qualified as a Solicitor in Ireland in 2024 having previously worked in the Legal Department of a number of high-profile organisations including the Central Bank of Ireland, Irish Life Assurance and Start Mortgages.  He joined Holmes in 2024 when OCWM Law merged with Holmes.

Hugh provides litigation advice and represents clients in relation to landlord and tenant, employment and equality, data protection, debtor/creditor and shareholder disputes.

He has recently worked on matters before the Workplace Relations Commission, the Residential Tenancies Board as well as the Circuit, High and Supreme Courts.

Recent Work Highlights

  • A successful appeal to the Supreme Court in the matter of Munnelly -v- Citylearning Limited which has clarified the law in Ireland with respect to the “Rule in Henderson -v- Henderson.
  • Settlement of a novel dispute before the Residential Tenancies Board and representing a landlord in Circuit Court proceedings, both cases concerning whether the tenancy was of a commercial or residential nature.
  • Settlement of Circuit Court proceedings on behalf of the management company of an industrial estate to recover from a tenant the costs of an environmental clean up
  • Representing trust claimants in the liquidation of SIAC Construction Limited.
