UNIVERSITY OF LIMERICK ACQUIRES FORMER DUNNES STORES SITE FOR €8 MILLION
We are acting for the University of Limerick in the acquisition of a strategic Limerick city centre site to develop a city centre campus.
Contracts have now been formally signed between the University of Limerick and Dunnes Stores. We are delighted to be acting for the University in the acquisition of this 5,500 square metre site which will form a key part in a €50 million campus development by the college which is paving the way for a university presence in the city. The site was formerly a Dunnes Stores shopping centre in the city centre on Sarsfield Street, located adjacent to the River Shannon.
Harry Fehily, Managing Partner, a supporter and champion of UL said:
“We have a long history of partnering with UL, having provided legal advice to this prestigious institution since its foundation in 1972. We are very excited to be involved in the ongoing development and expansion of the University, particularly where this development will be transformative on Limerick city. We are thrilled to be involved the major developments of Limerick City in line with the Government’s development plan for Ireland.”
Sandra Egan, leading commercial property Partner, commented:
“It is a key strategic and iconic site in terms of the ongoing regeneration of Limerick city. Myself and Pat McInerney, Partner who heads our public sector unit, provided advice to UL on all aspects of the acquisition.”
Pat McInerney, Partner, congratulated UL:
“This is a tremendous development for UL and its city centre campus presence. Limerick is a beautiful city and it is excellent to see this empty site now being redeveloped to huge benefit to UL (already a world ranking university), the students, the business community and the city as a whole.”
